Tura’s Sonus concert at Waringarri Aboriginal Arts on Wednesday the 23rd of June will be a celebration of music, art and culture.
The evening will feature new arrangements and original songs from the Sonus ensemble, Naomi Pigram, Mark Atkins, Judith Hamann and Aviva Endean, a performance by the Waringarri Dancers, a BBQ and the opening of The Alternative Archive in the Dawang Gallery.
The Alternative Archive is an exhibition being held at Waringarri Aboriginal Arts as part of a ground-breaking, interconnected series of 14 group exhibitions across the state, bringing together contemporary artists living across regional Western Australia.
Waringarri Arts’ The Alternative Archive exhibition is curated by Dora Griffiths and will feature works by senior elders as well as emerging artists working across a range of mediums including painting, photography, ceramics, woodwork and textiles.
“This exhibition is how knowledge and culture is passed down from our elders to the young ones, encouraging them to become artists” says curator Dora Griffiths.
The Sonus concert, presented by Tura New Music, commences at 5pm following the exhibition opening at 4:30pm.
This is a free event, with a gold coin donation for food. This is an alcohol-free event.
